Running is one of the easiest ways to get outdoors, soak in the beauty of nature and burn some calories in the process. The best part about running is that you don’t need much equipment— just shoes and comfortable clothing that wicks sweat away to keep you cool on your run.
Many parks offer quiet, scenic roads, beaches and/or trails for running alone or in small groups. Some parks are just outside your doorstep.
Local running clubs are a great resource for finding routes and connecting with other runners at your pace. Ask a park office for more information.

Clothing
Technical fabrics wick away sweat better than cotton. Keep sun out of your eyes with a visor, not a hat, which traps heat.
Choose the right time of day
On hot days, run first thing in the morning to take advantage of cooler temperatures. At sunset, the pavement will still be hot from absorbing the sun all day.
Find the right shoes
Wear comfortable shoes that support your arches well. When running on trails, you need a trail shoe to grip the terrain.
Bring a friend
Recruit a running partner and have more fun than running alone.
Stay hydrated
Drink eight ounces of liquids before you head out and two to four sips of water every 15 minutes.
